This project will introduce aspiring entrepreneurs from the Kakuma Refugee Camp in Kenya to the core components of entrepreneurship and the importance of free markets, using materials based on the ideas and work of Professor George Ayittey. Students will spend several weeks in online learning, followed by a one week, in-person, residential entrepreneurship workshop taught at Learning Lions’ Information and Communication Technology Hub (ICT Hub) and learning center in Loropio, Turkana, Kenya (120km from Kakuma). Students’ mastery of theory will be measured with integrated online assessments and course reviews. Following the course and workshop, students’ entrepreneurial success in launching or expanding their businesses will be tracked at 3 months and 6 months, via surveys and reports on the impact of their learning on their business practices and results.
