Spirituality is central to the conceptualisation of mental health in Indonesian culture, while scientific methodologies and frameworks are critical to addressing mental health conditions and human flourishing more broadly. However, these two components have not been meaningfully integrated to address Indonesia's mental health issue on a population level. Furthermore, individuals much rather turn to religious leaders for help, given the stigma against seeking mental health help, and the scarcity of professionals. This project aims to integrate spirituality and science using evidenced-based methodologies to develop and evaluate a mental health first aid training program which uses spiritual and religious principles to train religious leaders. In sum, the aims are:
1. To develop an adapted mental health first aid program for religious leaders,
2. To conduct a pilot study assessing knowledge, confidence, and practical skills following both in person and self-guided training, and
3. To assess the effectiveness of this mental health first aid pilot program for people that have been given aid
