This funding will support The Mont Pelerin Society (MPS) Young Scholars Program, a forum for advanced graduate students, early-career professors, and professional researchers to present original work at MPS meetings. The program provides registration and travel support for 12–15 participants at each meeting (General, Regional, Special), helping to nurture the next generation of scholars committed to the Society’s mission.
Strengthening this initiative at upcoming meetings in Indianapolis, Indiana (General Meeting, October 2026) and Buenos Aires, Argentina (Regional Meeting, May 2027), as well as at the Biennial Congress and General Meeting in 2028, will help sustain the Society’s intellectual vitality in the years ahead.
Founded in 1947 near Montreux, Switzerland, the Mont Pelerin Society was established by thirty-six scholars, mostly economists, along with historians and philosophers, invited by Friedrich Hayek. In the aftermath of World War II, they convened out of concern for the rise of fascism and the threat to the values of Western civilization. The Society’s aim was not to form a political party or doctrine, but to foster rigorous intellectual exchange on classical liberalism and the foundations of a free society. Their discussions centered on the rule of law, private property, decentralization, market-oriented systems, and the balance of power between individuals and the state.
Today, MPS membership includes government officials, Nobel laureates, scholars, journalists, and business leaders. The Society has expanded beyond Europe and the Global North, actively including diverse voices and perspectives. Young scholars now play an increasingly important role, bringing new ideas and energy to the Society’s mission.
Funding will offset hosting costs and support Young Scholars Sessions through 2028, ensuring the continued renewal, diversity, and strength of intellectual discourse within the MPS.
