Spitfire Strategies will scope out possible formats and budgets for a third annual Global Flourishing Conference to take place in November 2024. In 2020, Templeton World Charity Foundation (TWCF) launched a new strategy to fund work in the Discovery, Development and Launch spaces dedicated to human flourishing. In order to nurture the emerging field of flourishing, which encompasses research, practice, and policy across academic and practical specialties, TWCF and a partner consulting firm planned the first Global Scientific Conference for Human Flourishing to honor what would have been Sir John Templeton’s 110th birthday on November 29 and 30, 2022.

Based on the success of the 2022 virtual conference, the TWCF Board of Trustees voted to hold a second annual Global Flourishing Conference virtually. This grant is expected to explore the feasibility of a third annual Global Flourishing Conference in-person around November 29-30, 2024.

The goals of the in-person conference will be to:

  • Contribute to building the field of human flourishing by providing a space to develop communities of practice, make connections across disciplines, provide a platform to spotlight new research, tools and practices.
  • Create a central node in the human flourishing network.
  • Grow audience engagement levels from the previous conferences.
  • Ensure global representation and participation to increase the size and diversity of researchers, practitioners and policymakers identifying as part of the field of Human Flourishing.

Spitfire Strategies will scope out possible conference formats and budgets, with a range of participants and geographic locations. Locations could include various regions in Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean and Asia. Additionally, the conference budget formats may be differentiated by the number of sponsoring partners needed, ticket price and number of scholarships. Spitfire Strategies will suggest formats for an in-person conference, and at least one suggested format that includes a hybrid virtual and in-person option.
