Early-career researchers often face fragmented literature and proponents of specific theories or methods working in silos. This can result in lack of opportunity to learn and exchange views with peers whose work is parallel to theirs. Designed for early-career researchers by early-career researchers, the Mediterranean Society For Consciousness Science (MESEC) is a unique undertaking that aims to address these challenges.

MESEC also offers opportunities for early academics to learn about the philosophical background behind theories of consciousness and the paradigms designed to test them which are not currently offered in traditional programs. With this funding, the society plans to expand their comprehensive curriculum to add a Researchers-In-Training coaching program with one-on-one sessions providing specific guidance on various topics such as data processing, data visualization, and scientific writing. They also plan to set up an online community which will be a platform for alumni to connect, contribute to the wiki Consciousness 101, and support other consciousness researchers-in-training.
