Top 3 Finalists for the World’s Best School Prize Announced from T4 Education

T4 Education and its partners including Templeton World Charity Foundation celebrate, recognize and share stories of schools transforming the lives of students and making a real difference to communities.

Strong schools make strong societies. T4 Education and its partners including Templeton World Charity Foundation are identifying and celebrating exemplary schools from around the globe. The World's Best School Prize seeks to recognize exemplary schools that, in the shadow of the pandemic, have demonstrated powerful and inspiring initiatives, transforming the lives of their students and their communities. The $250,000 prize fund will be equally shared among the winning 5 schools from across the globe in 2022. There are 5 prize categories. The World’s Best School Prizes Winning Ceremony will be streamed live in English with automated captions in Arabic, English, French, Portuguese, Spanish and other languages during World Education Week 2022.

The top 3 finalists in each category have been announced. A public advisory vote is underway through October 2, 2022 for the best school in each category. Click each link below to vote and/or learn more about each finalist.

Finalists in the Category: Community Collaboration - Schools integratively working with their communities to secure solid grounds for children’s progress. 

Play the video for Dunoon Grammar School, a public school in the predominantly rural area of Dunoon, Scotland, which has developed skill-based courses to turn around a "brain-drain" in its rural community. The school hosts approximately 700 students.

- Play the video for EMEB Profª Adolfina J. M. Diefenthäler, a public school in Novo Hamburgo, Brazil, which has turned around student drop-outs and failures after bringing in democratic assemblies that give students a stake. The school hosts approximately 700 primary students. 

- Play the video for PCMC English Medium School, a public-private school, located in the village of Pune, India, which has created a cultural dynamic centered on close ties within the community and with parents. The school hosts approximately 250 kindergarten and primary students.

 

Finalists in the Category: Environmental Action - Schools engaging with solutions for global warming and climate crisis.

- Play the video for Bonuan Buquig National High School, a public school in a riverside area of Dagupan City, Philippines, which restored lost mangroves to reverse the environmental devastation impacting its students. The school hosts more than 2000 secondary students.

- Play the video for Green School Bali, an international private school in the jungles of Bali, Indonesia, which has woven environmentalism into the fabric of the school itself through a plethora of initiatives from bio buses to compost toilets.The school hosts approximately 400 kindergarten, primary, and secondary students.

- Play the video for International School of Zug and Luzern, an international private school in Zug, Switzerland, whose student initiatives are transforming it into a zero-waste, zero-carbon organization. The school hosts approximately 1250 students from pre-K to secondary.

 

Finalists in the Category: Innovation - Schools breaking from tradition to accelerate progress and improve education by ‘leapfrogging’ innovative approaches.

Play the video for Escuela Emilia Lascar, a public school located in Peñaflor, Chile, which launched its own TV channel to engage its students during the COVID-19 pandemic. The school hosts approximately 1000 pre-K, kindergarten, and primary students.

Play the video for N High School, an international private school with 33 satellite campuses in Japan, which immerses students in virtual worlds to bring their studies to life. The school hosts approximately 20,000 upper secondary students.

Play the video for Sekolah Kebangsaan Kempadang, a public school located in rural Kuantan, Malaysia, which created a fully automated tracking system that follows students’ progress. The school hosts approximately 1750 primary students.

 

Finalists in the Category: Overcoming Adversity - Schools strengthening their students while succeeding in powering through challenges.

Play the video for Escola Evandro Ferreira Dos Santos, a public school located in Cabrobó, Brazil, which improves its students’ education by teaching their parents as well. The school hosts approximately 150 primary students.

Play the video for Pinelands North Primary School,  a public school located in Cape Town, South Africa, which is one of the country’s leading institutions for fostering inclusivity in education. The school hosts approximately 400 primary students. 

Play the video for Project Shelter Wakadogo, a charity school in rural Gulu, Uganda, which was founded in the wake of war and now educates over 450 children with one of the highest student retention rates in the country. The school hosts approximately 450 students from pre-K to secondary.

 

Finalists in the Category: Supporting Healthy Lives - Schools providing the opportunity for their students and community to live healthily in an integrated and sustainable way.

Play the video for Curie Metropolitan High School, a public school in the city of Chicago, United States, which breaks down barriers for disadvantaged ethnic minority students and promotes healthy lives through an extensive art program. The school hosts more than 2000 secondary students.
