Institution: London School of Economics and Political ScienceLife on this planet has undergone several significant transitions: from unicellular to multicellular, from multicellular to complex multicellular, from complex multicellular individuals to colonies.
There are theoretical and empirical reasons to believe that humans have gone through a similar major transition: from bands and small-scale societies to what we might call "human collectives."
Our most outstanding achievements and our worst atrocities have come from the actions of human groups.
This project aims to understand the behavior and intelligence of human collectives, where they are, and what they might become.
